A very dear friend and longtime APA member has unexpectedly passed away. Jim Joyner, a member in our League since 1994, was called home on March 3rd, 2017. To all of his family and friends, our hearts are breaking with yours. Such a great man................a pleasure to call him a friend! RIP, Jimmy!
David Emery, a previous APA member, passed away on October 12, 2016. David was a wonderful man who joined our League in 2002. Though he was on hiatus recently, we wanted to notify our membership of his passing. To all of David's family and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy.
With great sadness we notify you of the loss of one of our long-term APA members,
(9-25-16). Jim joined our league in 2004 and was still playing up until his passing.......Jim was 73 years young! He was such a giving, kind and soft-spoken man who loved to play pool! Jim assisted us in running Qualifier Boards and anything else we may have needed. Jim has family members who continue to play with us today. To them, and Jim's entire family and pool playing friends, we send our deepest condolences. Jim, we love you and will miss you dearly!
On April 1st, 2016, we lost another Charlottesville APA member,
James ("Allen") Baugher.
Allen was a long time family member, joining our APA family in 2006. Allen never missed a session until recently, due to chemo. To all our Allen's family and friends, we are truly sorry for your loss as Allen's presence will be missed by so many! Allen was 53.
On March 19th, 2016, we lost a long term member of our APA family to cancer.
James ("JV") Down
joined the Charlottesville APA League in 2007. He never missed a session of pool and was truly one of the kindest, most humble men we've known. His wife, Ann, continues to participate in the APA in Charlottesville as a player, and our Division Rep. Our deepest sympathy to JV's family and friends as he will truly be missed by us all. James was 76.
On February 20, 2016,
unexpectedly passed away. Jacque was a new APA member, having started playing with us in June of 2015. We knew her as a lively, spirited and fun-loving lady who truly seemed to enjoy playing pool and supporting her fellow players. Her smiling face will definitely be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends and teammates.
On March 9, 2015, a friend and long-term APA member unexpectedly passed away. Lee Lenhart has been a member of our APA family since 1998. His wife, Stacey, still plays with us today. To know Lee was to love him! He was always positive and smiling. His laugh and spirit was infectious and he will greatly missed by us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Stacey and the enitre family.
On January 18, 2015, we unexpectedly lost another member of our APA family, Daniel Madison. Dan was a member of our league since 2010 and both of his parents (Deborah and Douglas) still play with us today. There are no words to express the sadness being felt by so many. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.
On December 27, 2014, we lost a member of our Farmville APA family, Ricky Call. Ricky was a member of our league since 2010. Ricky will be missed by all of his APA family, but most importantly by his Farmville family, to include his son who still plays with us today. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of his friends and family.
Sadly, one of our oldest APA members has passed away. Jesse Lignian of Ashland, Virginia lost his battle with lung cancer and passed away at home on Saturday, 11-30-2013. Jesse was 86 and played pool with his son-in-law, Dennis Beard, at Break Time in Ashland. Dennis would pick him up every week for pool and Jesse loved his pool-playing time with Dennis and his friends. Our sincere condolences go out to Jesse's family and friends during this very difficult time. He will be missed by us all!
Another APA member has passed away. Bob Knight has played in our league since 2006, along with his wife, Trudy, on the 9-ball team 9 Break & Run. He was a pleasure to know, such a high-spirited man with a passion for pool! To Trudy, Meghan and all of his family, friends and teammates, we are deeply sorry for your loss. Bob was loved by many and will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
It is with great sadness that we notify you of the recent passing of Novenda Ginder. She lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, 10-14-12. Novenda was known and loved by many and was a devoted member of our APA family for over 9 years. There are no words to express the sadness that is felt by so many. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of her family and friends as they grieve this loss.
William "Bill" Cody has passed away. Bill joined our league in the Summer of 2011 and was a member of the team Stik M Up out of Murphy's Law. To all of his friends, family and teammates, we extend our deepest sympathy. Though we did not know him personally, we know many of you did and hope you find comfort during this difficult time.
John Propst has lost his battle with cancer and passed away in August ('12). John originally joined our league in 1999 and after a long hiatus, rejoined his friends at Breaktime Billiards. We extend our deepest sympathy to all of his family and friends - he will definitely be missed by us all!
Tom Saunders, an APA member since 2008, has passed away. Tom played most recently with the Sneaky Weasels out of Diamond Billiards. Our deepest condolence goes to all of Tom's family, friends and teammates during this difficult time. He will certainly be missed!
A five year APA member (Frank Shendock) has recently passed away. Frank was a long-term member of the team "In The End" out of Murphy's Law II. To all of his family, teammates and friends, we want to extend our deepest sympathies. Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
Willard Harvey, an APA member since 2002 has passed away. Willard played APA in Fredericksburg, VA and to all of his family and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy. Willard was well-known and liked by everyone and will certainly be missed by us all.
Sadly, we are mourning the loss of another APA member, Wayne Phelps, age 41. Wayne joined the APA in 2008 and played at Breaktime Billiards, in Ashland, with his father, Cecil Phelps. Cecil has been a member since 2002 and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and teammates. Our thoughts and prayers are with Cecil and his family during this difficult time.
With great sadness we notify you of the loss of yet another long-term APA member, Bill Garter. Bill enjoyed playing in our league for almost eight years and passed away on 12-29-11 as a result of complications of lung cancer. Such a kind and generous man - always smiling - such a joy to be around! Bill, we will miss you dearly!
More than a long-term APA family member, a dear personal friend, Phil Thompson, has been taken from us. Words cannot express how much we miss Phil and what an honor to have had him in our lives. We only wish it could have been longer. We love you!
Raymond Bailey departed us early in a fatal motorcycle accident. For four years he was an APA family member and his brother and sister-inlaw (DJ Bailey and Nicole Bailey) are still APA members today after 7 years. Our hearts go out to DJ and Nicole and their entire family for such a tragic loss of a loved one. Ray will be missed by all who knew him.
Robert "Spanky" Lee, a three-year APA family member has passed away. Such a fun and good-hearted fellow, we will greatly miss having him in our league. Our deepest condolences to all of his teammates, friends and family.
It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of another APA family member. For 6 years, Jennifer "Ferin" Corbin had participated on the 8-ball team, Chalk Is Cheap. She passed away on July 20, 2011. She was a great teammate, wonderful friend, and fun to be around. She will be greatly missed by the APA and all who knew her. Our sincere condolences to all of her teammates, family and friends.
Another long-term APA family member has been taken from us. Sadly, Danny Swain, an 8-year member, has passed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family - you will be missed, Danny!
Ed Rice, a former APA member for many years has recently passed away. His brothers (Jim and Russ Rice) and niece (Jenny Rice) continue to play in our league today and we wanted them to know that Ed is still in our thoughts as are they.
It is with great sadness that we notify you all of the loss of one of our APA family members - Michael Butalewicz. Such a happy and kind man, we were honored to have Mike in our league for 6 years. Please keep his wife, Carol and son, Eddie (both current APA members) in your thoughts and prayers.
Our friend and fellow member, James Lucy passed away unexpectedly on 1-24-11. Words cannot express our sadness and how much his smiling face will be missed. For over 10 years James Lucy played in the APA and was a recognizable part of our family for the entire time. Such a happy, unselfish and kind soul................many tears for you and your family.........we will miss you dearly!
We have sadly lost another APA member. Better known as "Pops" by those who knew and loved him, Walter Edwards passed away on Christmas Day. He has participated in APA play at Breaktime Billiards in Ashland since 2002. We will truly miss seeing "Pops'" smiling face at pool! Our thoughts go out to his son, TJ, also an APA member., and his entire family.
Gilbert "Big G" Jones was taken from us suddenly on 9-29-10. He was a new member to our APA family in January of this year, but was fortunate enough to have enjoyed a trip to the Nationals with his 9-ball team, Up To No Good. He was a gentle man, kind-hearted, and loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
On July 6, 2010, we lost another APA family member, Jason Blankenship. Jason was only 28 and had been a member of our league since 2005. His father, Nelson Blankenship, was also a member of our league since 1995 before he passed away in 2000. What a tragic loss for this family. Jason was a kind soul and will be greatly missed by us all.
It is with great sadness that we notify our membership about the loss of one of our family members. Charlie Norman, an APA member for over 7 years, lost his battle with cancer on April 18, 2010. Charlie will be missed by many and our heartfelt sympathies go out to all of his family and friends.
Sadly, we have lost yet another APA family member, Gary Addison. Gary had only been a member of our league for a year, but truly loved the game and was well-known and liked by all who were fortunate enough to have met him. Again, our deepest sympathies go out to all Gary's family and friends.
On Tuesday, May 18th, the APA lost another family member, Stacey Griffin. Stacey played in our league for over 10 years and his loss will be felt by many. Our deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends.
Sadly, Central Virginia has lost another APA member, Daniel Stephens. He was taken from us early in an automobile accident. He was an APA family member for two years in Charlottesville and his loss will be felt by many.
